The Vicksburg District Library is seeking applicants for a 13 hour per week Library Clerk position. This position is ideal for those who are 18 years and older, are seeking part time work, and are interested in learning about how libraries work!

Essential functions:

  • Provides general operational support for the Library
    • Opens and closes the Library
    • Answers general inquiries from the public concerning Library operation, services, and materials
    • Answers general questions relating to the location of materials in the Library‚Äôs collections and how they are used
    • Explains library policy and handles any needed paperwork for use of the Heritage Room, Meeting Room, computers, and bulletin board
  • Provides circulation services for Library patrons
    • Registers new patrons
    • Checks materials out to patrons
    • Handles patron requests for purchase or looking for item in reciprocating library
    • Collects and records fines and fees
    • Receives and processes returned materials
    • Assists patrons with cop machine, fax machine, laminator, or public catalog as requested
    • Helps patrons set up email account or use search engine on public computers
  • Processes new materials in preparation for circulation or use per policy
  • Removes library markings from withdrawn material per policy
  • Provides assistance to other Library personnel as necessary or requested
  • Magazine check in a shelving
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director

Other requirements:

  • Must have the ability to read, write, perform basic math, and know keyboard
  • Must have computer literacy in Microsoft Word and internet searches
  • Must have the ability to count money, make change, and balance cash receipts
  • Must have the ability to successfully interact with the public
  • Must be able to stand for several hours at a time
  • (Preferred) A reader who has the ability to discuss books with the public
