BOOK CLUB FOR ADULTS

The Vicksburg District Library’s Book Club for Adults meets on the first Thursday of the month from 9:30 – 10:30am. Our July meeting will be on July 2. Coffee, tea, and breakfast treats are provided. Newcomers are always welcome. However, Book Club for Adults is for adults 18+ only. For our July meeting, we will read and discuss “The Bees” by Laline Paull.

SCRABBLE CLUB

Play the board game Scrabble with other adults at the library. Scrabble Club meets on Tuesdays, June 2, July 14, & August 11 from 1:00-2:30pm.

Book boxes for adults - Signups open now! Book Boxes are personalized readers’ advisory in a box with treats. Registration limited to 5 boxes per month.

BOOK BOXES FOR ADULTS

Book Boxes contain books based on personalized recommendations from criteria that you specify, all inside a box with treats: salty, sweet, and a little surprise. Registration is limited to 5 boxes per month. Registration for Book Boxes is now open and will remain open through June 15. Follow this link to register.

How Book Boxes work: Book Boxes are for adults 18+ only. You tell us your reading preferences – what you’re looking for and what you’re not looking for – and you’ll get a box with three surprise library books and some treats. The books and boxes are checked out like any other library book and returned on their due date.

WRITERS’ MOTIVATIONAL GROUP

A writers’ group where members discuss and practice writing, encourage one another, report progress, and respond to short writing prompts. This program is for adults only. We meet from 4:00-5:00pm on Thursdays, June 11, July 2, and August 13.

ADULT CRAFT: BIRD COLLISIONS

Did you know that 10,836 birds were found dead on the streets of Chicago in 2023 after they were killed by hitting glass? Bird Collisions in the Anthropocene is a crowd-sourced art project to create a fabric bird for each of those Chicago birds that died in 2023. Drop in on June 17 (5-7pm) to decorate a bird that will be submitted to the project, and learn about ways to make your windows safe for birds.

MEDICARE PLANNING 101

Confused about Medicare? This educational class presented by financial advisor Justin Henrich describes the basics in a clear, easy-to-understand way. Learn the different coverage options available, when and how to enroll, and common strategies people use to manage costs and coverage. This program will take place on Wednesday, July 8, at 6-7pm.

BLADES OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

Jerry Berg of the Swordsmanship Museum and Academy presents Blades of the American Revolution. This presentation will take place in the library’s Lower Level at 6-7:30pm on Wednesday, July 15.
